About This Lodge

Serengeti North Wilderness Camp is a seasonal, low-impact property that follows the annual rhythm of the Great Migration. Operating from July to October, its primary purpose is to place guests in the heart of the action as hundreds of thousands of wildebeest and zebras move through the northern Serengeti. The camp focuses on providing a classic, no-frills safari experience that prioritizes the wild environment over artificial luxury.

The atmosphere is quiet and intentional, designed for those who want to feel the raw energy of the bush. It offers a grounded connection to the land, where the sounds of the migrating herds and the calls of predators at night form the primary soundtrack. The camp’s temporary nature ensures that it remains an unobtrusive guest in this vast ecosystem, providing a front-row seat to one of nature’s most dramatic spectacles while maintaining a calm, unhurried pace within the grounds.

Location & Setting

The camp is positioned in the remote Kogatende region of the northern Serengeti, a short distance from the banks of the Mara River. This geography is defined by open rolling grasslands, ancient granite kopjes, and riverine forests that line the water’s edge.

The area is a critical junction for the migration, characterized by the steep-banked river where crossings occur. Access is typically via a flight to the Kogatende Airstrip, followed by a brief game drive. The setting is secluded, offering a sense of vastness and isolation within the park’s most active northern sector.

Accommodation

Accommodation consists of ten spacious, Meru-style tents that are designed to be fully removable at the end of the season. Each unit is set on the ground to maintain a low profile and a direct connection to the earth. The interiors are simple and functional, using natural canvas, wood, and neutral tones to create a restful space.

Each tent features an en-suite bathroom equipped with a traditional bucket shower and a flushing toilet, balancing classic bush living with essential comfort. A private shaded veranda at the front of each tent serves as a quiet spot for midday observation, allowing guests to watch the changing light over the Serengeti plains in complete privacy.

Facilities & Experiences

Life at the camp revolves around the central mess tent, which houses a comfortable lounge and a dining area with views across the savannah. Meals are often served in a communal setting, fostering a sense of shared adventure among guests and guides.

A signature feature is the nightly campfire, where guests gather to discuss the day’s sightings under the exceptionally clear northern skies. The service is personal and knowledgeable, provided by a dedicated team that understands the nuances of the local terrain. The experience is centered on the simplicity of the wild, encouraging guests to disconnect from the digital world and engage with the immediate environment.

Our Sustainability & Community Impact

The camp utilizes a specialized waste-segregation system that ensures all non-biodegradable materials are transported out of the park to certified recycling centers in Arusha. This prevents any long-term accumulation of waste in the delicate Serengeti ecosystem. By employing guides who grew up in the regions bordering the park, the camp ensures that traditional knowledge of the land is preserved and shared with every visitor.
